Accolades for Mom

We recently received news of a wonderful honor that has been bestowed on Mom. The 4-H have named the Sevier County Foundation in her honor. Reproduced below is the letter we recently received from The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture Extension for Sevier County:

June 25, 2008

Thank you for allowing Sevier County Extension to name the endowment fund in memory of Glenda. From now on the fund will be known as the Glenda M Johnson 4-H Endowment Fund. As I have told you before, the establishment of the endowment fund has been the single greatest contribution to the Sevier County 4-H Program in my 17 years as 4-H Agent in Sevier County. The interest from the fund, continues to provide a multitude of awards and recognition programs, as well as educational materials and support for campers and 4-H trips. This past week, earnings were used to assist 150 4th, 5th, and 6th graders attend 4-H camp.

Thank you also for including the endowment in the memorials for Glenda. To date, $3,425.00 has been sent. I have enclosed a receipt for your gift. Thank you for continuing to support our efforts with young people.

As I have observed county 4-H programs, in my 22 year career, it seems that many have that one family that stands out in support of the county 4-H efforts. The Charlie and Glenda Johnson family have been that support for me and Sevier County 4-H. Much of the success that we have experienced can be attributed to your contributions.

My reading of Proverbs 18:14 yesterday reminded me of Glenda. It says, "The spirit of man can endure his sickness." Glenda endured. She "fought the good fight" and "kept the faith." Charlie, may that same Holy Spirit that enabled her to endure encourage you, Stefanie, Ashley and Alex in these days. We continue to pray.

Thank you again for your support. Our goal with the endowment is to honor the legacy of service that Glenda has left us to follow.
