4-H Award

Ashley, Alex, and I had a wonderful trip to Nashville earlier this week and I want to share with everyone the reason for our trip. About 6 weeks ago we learned that the 4-H of East Tennessee had selected Mom for the Friendship of 4-H Award. On Tuesday morning at the Eastern Region Breakfast of the 4-H Congress, Connie Heiskell, the Region Director, presented the award and Ashley, Alex, and I were there to accept in Mom's place. Mom has supported 4-H for many years, beginning with the involvement of us, her children. She has served as a 4-H Club Leader, 4-H project group leader, assisted with 4-H judging teams, conducted various 4-H workshops, and assisted with the county public speaking contest as a workshop leader and judge. Amongst other projects she currently serves on the Easter Region Volunteer Leader Council and she was instrumental in raising $100,000 for the Sevier County 4-H Endowment Fund when she served as chair of the committee. As well as sharing these and other ways Mom has involved herself in the program, Connie also shared that "Glenda's life is a testimony of her commitment to faith, family and service to her community. ... May we follow the example that Glenda Johnson has provided for us and also be a Friend of 4-H."

It was truly an honor to be able to accept this award in Mom's stead. She is truly an example of what it means to give to your community.
