Poem about Glenda

This poem was written to honor Mom by her brother-in-law Butch Smith. I hope that you all enjoy it as much as we have:

Glenda

Back in June of '46
In a house of salvaged wood
In the corner of the house
A proud Daddy stood
And gazed on a baby
His first little girl
He could only imagine
How she'd change his world
The third of fourteen
A mama's girl from the start
She was so very pretty
And so very smart
At Henderson's Chapel
In the spring of '57
She was born again
And secured her place in heaven
Teaching was her gift
Education was her passion
She used them both
In unbelievable fashion
If it meant driving a truck
30 miles in 2nd gear
She was going to school
In spite of her fear
Homecoming at Tech
On her first blind date
She met up with Charlie
And sealed her fate
She got her degree
And came back home
She kept house
And Charlie struggled on
He passed the bar
In such grand style
You'd think that Glenda
Would rest for awhile
To her family, devotion
She gave without caution
Working beside her Daddy
At McCarter Auction
Thier first baby came in '77
Stefanie Allysia, a true gift from heaven
Two little boys would follow thereafter
First came Charles Ashley
Then Richard Alexander
A volunteer all the way
She couldn't wait to start
Working til her death
With a servant's heart
We saw her on Fox News
At the Republican Convention
And working the polls
For every election
Sunday School, Girl Scouts,
4-H and more
Always helping others
Never keeping score
She fought til the end
And not once complained
"No tears for me"
Was her final refrain
I know my Jesus
Has my home almost ready
I see Mama and Daddy,
And there's little Freddie
